Education, Health & Care Plan Officer

Background
Responsible for writing Education, Health and Care plans (EHCP) based on an analysis of statutory assessment advice, including school, medical, educational psychology and parental information.
Responsible for other aspects of the Special Educational Needs (SEN) code of practice including liaison with parents/carers, professionals in education and other agencies. Ensure that pupils with EHCPs are appropriately placed within mainstream, special schools, EOTAS (education other than at school), home education or independent sector providers. Ensure statutory review and monitoring of placements in accordance Education Act (1996).
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure high quality Education, Health and Care plans are drafted in accordance with the code of practice and that parent and child voice is clearly evidenced.
- Ensure that all settings work in accordance with the code of practice. Offer ongoing advice and support to schools and partner agencies.
- Ensure that all plans are reviewed and placements are monitored to meet the needs of the child.
Qualifications and Experience
- Educated to degree level in a relevant area eg, Education, Health or Social Care.
- Understanding of SEN legislation, Code of Practice and Disability Discrimination in Schools.
- Knowledge, understanding and commitment to the principles of inclusive education/ qualifications/knowledge.
- Knowledge of the production of Education, Health and Care Plans.
- Understanding of child protection and safeguarding.
- Experience of teaching and/or working in a school.
- Experience of working in an area related to SEN.
- Experience of working in a multi-agency environment.
- Planning skills to compete statutory assessments within the required deadlines.
- Developed interpersonal and communication skills for exchanging information with a range of audiences mainly with parents and carers, professionals and those with the school community.
- Keyboard and ICT skills for producing reports, letters and emails.
- Work both independently under own initiative and as part of a team.
